A magnificent floral still life by the Norwegian painter Frants Diderik Boe(1820-1891). From the 1879 book Men of the Time, a Dictionary of Contemporaries, Tenth Edition by Thompson Cooper, London 1879(available on internet), the artist is listed as Francis Didier Boe. Born Bergen, Norway 1820. Studied at the Academy of Copenhagen. In Paris in 1849. Known for his flower paintings. The Louvre has an example from 1850. Since the book mentioned is from 1879, it is very probable he either started exporting paintings to the U.S. or came to the U.S. later in his career. Framed dimensions are 20''H by 18''W and sight size is 13 1/2''H by 11 1/2''W. There is minor crazing in the painting and along lower edge very minute chips. Frame is magnificent and probably original. An important painting by a very well listed artist. Status: For Sale Reference#: 127_2729 Condition: vg Year: 1880   « Less
