Here’s a very unique Art Deco Collection Custom Carpet of an important Gustave Miklos “Collage” design. This rug has a very unusual asymmetrical shape as well as an irregular format. It bears a very "modernist' point of view and further, it was designed for the drawing room in the home of renown French fashion designer, Jacques Doucet in 1925. This rug design truly represents the forward thinking of the Art Deco movement. It is a rug that would best be utilized in a smaller area to be shown (not covered), in essence, as floor art.Gustave Miklos - Bio Art Deco sculptor and designer Gustave Miklos was born in Budapest, Hungary in 1888. He studied at the Decorative Arts School in Budapest. In 1909 Miklos settled in Paris. He became a naturalized French citizen and made acquiantances with renown Hungarian/French sculptor Josephy Csaky. Like his contemporaries, Miklos frequented the Paris Cubist exhibitions. He designed beautiful jewelry enamels, silver and carpets and was a member of the Union of Modern Artists (U.A.M.). Miklos soon became an important Art Deco designer and his work was prominently displayed in the U.A.M. society's pavilion at the 1937 Paris Exhibition. From 1940 onward, he divided his time between sculpture, interior design and teaching. He died in Oyonnax, France in 1967.
