Superb Quality Antique Japanese Satsuma ceramic by Gyokuzan, Meiji period, circa. (1886-1912) seven pieces sweet meat set composed of seven dishes finely hand painted with intricate details in various coloured enamels and gold depicting the seven gods of luck Shichi Fukujin, which means "seven happiness beings".


The octagonal central dish portrays Benzaiten (Benten-sama), goddess of knowledge, art and beauty, especially music is surrounded by six fan shaped dishes decorated with:

Hotei, the fat and happy god of abundance and good health.

Jurōjin, god of longevity.

Fukurokuju, god of happiness, wealth and longevity.

Bishamonten, god of warriors.

Daikokuten (Daikoku), god of wealth, commerce and trade.

Ebisu, god of fishers or merchants, often depicted carrying a sea bream

Each of the dishes is hand signed on the underside with Japanese two-character marks, one painted in red and second one hand incised into ceramic prior to the process of firing. The center dish has the gold painted Gyokuzan, mark on red and the other mark painted in red.

All pieces puzzle together to fit on a footed, black lacquered wooden stand.

CONDITION: in good condition with no damage or repair.

MEASUREMENTS: Diameter of the wooden stand in approximately: 29.5 cm (11 5/8 in). Diameter of the ceramic set in approximately: 24.7cm (9 3/4 in)
