Price: $500.00
DESCRIPTION: When Candles were the only source of light, having a safe and handy storage box was important. Homemade candles were soft and easily bent so they had to be stored lying flat. Since they were made of beeswax and or tallow, mice and other vermin were attracted to them. We are pleased to offer this outstanding rare early colonial extra large candle box from New England circa 1700s for your consideration. The Colonial Candle Box is handmade of walnut wood and has a chamfered sliding lid top with a two finger grip notches. A large Candle Box like this would have been a staple in a Colonial family’s open hearth kitchen. The Antique Candle Box was constructed using wooden peg joinery that has been supplemented with age appropriate square nails. There is age shrinkage and outstanding age old repairs by a master craftsman. The condition of the Candle Box shows it was well taken care of and handed down over the generations as a cherished heirloom. The Colonial Candle Box is heavy in weight and has beautiful grain lines. The antique candle box is in excellent condition with age appropriate wear and patina adding character and authenticity to the early candle box.
