Victorian, circa 1900 Glass fairy lamp with Nailsea-type fairy size dome in blue with white loopings. Dome has unusual enlongated shape. Sits in an embossed clear glass cup. The cup and dome sit in a matching rounded base with an inwardly crimped rim. Fairy lamps originated in England in the 1840''s and are candle burning night lights that would have been used in nurseries, hallways, and dimly lit corners of the home. Similar piece illustrated on page 171, Schiffer''s ''Fairy Lamps'' by Bob and Pat Ruf. Good. Tiny chips to opening of dome. Flaws in glass on cup. 5.75ins high
