A rare Hardy's line winder, cast iron frame with brass mechanism and the arms numbered 1 - 4. It can be secured to a table by way of a clamp on the base. This is the 1897 model. Line winders were an important tool in the days of silk line when one had to take the line off the reel for drying. It still has its use today for transferring the fishing line from one reel to another.
