ANTIQUE HICKORY GOLF CLUBS BY ROBERT FORGAN.
A pair of golf clubs by Robert Forgan and Son of St. Andrews. The two clubs are both smooth faced clubs with " Kings Crown " mark which indicated that he was making clubs for King Edward. This mark was in use from 1901-1908. The Mashie and the Niblick are hickory shafted and they each have a leather grip.
The club is also stamped "Made for Wagle & Co. Bombay".
Robert Forgan is one of the most famous club makers, and started working for his uncle Hugh Philp in 1852. Philp was renowned as one of the best wooden club makers around. When Philp died in 1856 Forgan took over the business. Many of the other great club makers such as Auchterlonie and Anderson learned their trade with Forgan before setting up on their own.
