1960’s Bizarre Teisco “Monkey Grip” Electric Guitar. #G66 - For Sale
1960’s Bizarre Teisco “Monkey Grip” Electric Guitar. #G66
Here is a very good example of this much sought after guitar!
Monkey grip body, 4+2 headstock and the battleship grey pickups. This rare beauty was made circa 1965-67.
It is a Teisco product and has lost the glued on badge on its headstock many years ago.
The outline shows a shield type badge, possibly branded a St George or other similar brand. See photo.
The pick guards / control covers are made from metal (aluminum alloy) and shield the electronics.
Several small wear scratches and dings appropriate with age.
It has a big baseball bat neck that is almost a V shape. Straight neck with low action. Frets have little wear.
These models come with several different tremolo systems and this one has the best, by far. Spring tension is adjustable as is the tremolo bar position. Has a custom made steel tremolo bar that works better than an original. It is about 25/1000 thicker than the original with better curves. It fits precisely and is not sloopy/floopy. It stays where you move it and can b tightened or loosened by the turn of the adjusting screw, see photo. You can palm it for a whammy effect or rapidly tap it for a striking tremolo/wha effect.
This is a large/heavy guitar quite different from other Japanese guitars of the 60’s.
Comes with vintage chipboard case in fairly good condition.
All guitars sold as is.
Price is firm.
