This painting has great depth. It has been lightly restored and the painting has been relined. The frame is not the original frame but definetely is a nice 19th century frame that goes very nice with the painting. This is a OIL on Canvas with and signed by E. WEBER. The Weber and Webber family produced many 19th century artists and mostly all did nautical and marine painings. We have had several over the years and they appreciate in value as the years go by. This reproduction is produced directly on the canvas using state of the art Iris Giclee printing technology. It has been treated for ultraviolet protection and hand varnished in the manner of the original to provide additional surface protection and authenticity. Born in Copenhagen, Antonio Nicolo Gasparo Jacobson came from the family of violin makers, but passed up the family business to emigrate to the United States of America at the age of(21) twenty-one. Living near New York, by 1880, he had established himself as a very successful ship portraitist. Spanning the transition from sail to steam, he provided a record of almost all ships, American or European that called at the port of New York. While his paintings are meticulous and traditional in format, his attention to detail and feeling for individual character prevent his portraits from becoming mere stereotypes. Jacobsen was very prolific and painted until the year before his death. His paintings are in more than 70 museums worldwide including The Mariner's Museum in Newport News, Virginia, The Peabody Museum in Salem, Massachusetts and The Mystic Seaport Museum in Mystic, Connecticut. The S.S. El Siglo was a American Flag ship in service from 1901-1934. Built by The Newport News Shipping and Dry-Dock Company for the Morgan Line,she was 397.7 Feet Long, displaced 4508 Tons, and had a width of 48.3 feet with a draft of twenty-six (26) feet. In this painting, the ship sits perfectly in the water and gives a strong sense of power moving smartly under a gray sky. Her name on the bow and the Morgan insignia on the stack identify the ship. This is an outstanding and typical Jacobsen from this period. Dated 1915 and signed B. CHURCH. A Beautiful and very well executed Oil on Board of Ships in a Moonlight Scene on the water. Size of painting is 9 1/2" X 7 1/2" and the overall size including the frame is 17 1/4" X 15". The artist is English and is listed in Davenports. Good Condition. I have Very Lightly had the painting cleaned professionally by a art conservator. This is a very nice charming painting, of a real nice size,and in Good Condition. Frame has a few cracks in the corners. I believe the frame is original. We recently have reduced the price on this painting and many other items on our web site.   « Less

19TH Century signed Seascape Watercolor Painting measuring 5 3/4" X 9" mounted in a gold gilded frame and double matted. Overall size is 14 3/4" X 12". The painting, which is in perfect condition, depicts a rugged coastline with the silhouette of a old building on the rise. You can also see a couple of sailing ships on the horizon. In the lower right corner I can make out the artist signature, but I can not decipher it. Good Condition. There is a very light stain to the right hand edge of the mat, but there are no other damages or repairs.   « Less

Tayler was born in Massachusetts in 1968. He is a modern day painter who still paints and the fact that he was raised within sight of the ocean is evident in most of his paintings. His work depicts all facets of coastal areas and marine subjects. With great artistic talent and using a fine detailed manner, he creates works of extraordinary strength. He paints several versions of Sailing Ships. Single,double and triple and J.Class. Even though he actively paints and all of his paintings are hand painted by him and are not copied off of a computer or any type of modern technology. We usually are fortunate to acquire a few of his paintings a year. They are most sought after by clients and decorators on the East Coast from Maine to Florida. The first 28,000 Tea Tanker Delivered at: Bethlehem Sparrows Point Shipyard,Inc. Painted by: F.E. YESTADT EVANS. Also signed Evans on the lower right front. Also the letters JAHRA are on the left hand side which apparently must be the name of the steamboat. 20" X 14" Set in a plain black frame for a total size of 21 1/2" X 15 1/2" This is also signed individually on the back by 20 people who apparently were friends of the artist and this final presentation was done before a dinner in Baltimore, Md. near the Sparrows Point Shipyard. I am familiar with the area as I have lived in the Baltimore Area for over 50 years. After further help from a individual on the internet which may help translate inscription on back better. Year built 1949, name Jahra,type Tanker,for Gulf Oil Corp., hull no. 4467,gross tonnage 17,900, deadweight DWT 28,300, status scrapped. all this info may be found from this link--http://www.coltoncompany.com/shipbldg/ussbldrs/postwwii/merchant/tankers.htm. Beautiful Antique Print of Sailboats in the water and at Dock which reminds me of Annapolis the Capitol of Maryland and Home of the U. S NAVAL ACADEMY. Pictured in this picture are people in a very impressionist style and appears to be dated from the Late 1800's to Early 1900's. The frame probably dates from the Mid-20TH Century. There is a house on the island in the middle of the body of water. Bright Blue Sky with touches of purple and pink. Green Trees and Orange Boats on a Dark Blue Water. This piece of antique art work measures 8" X 10" (PROBABLY A PRINT) is encased and mounted in glass with a nice ornate wooden frame decorated with carved leaves and ribbed edging. Very Decorative. The frame is painted in gold and green and is 15" X 13" X 1 1/2" This print is in Perfect Condition and ready to hang on the wall.   « Less
