Main Panel has a monkey begging for food or possibly his life from a Samurai while a cat warrior with a flag with a peach in it looks on. Incredible detail and far more exotic than the pictures show. I particularly like the detail on the edge of the lid. Flowers that are split in two are painted on both halves so the lid ''fits'' in only one way. This is a wonderful very decorative Circa 1860, Satsuma Koro. It stands on 4 stylish feet with gosu blue highlights. The body features animal mask side handles and a richly decorated gold dragon. They are wonderful done with lots of use of gold. Large richly enameled florals encased by geometric gold designs also in this scene. Thick reds, golds greens and Gosu blue throughout. Atop the lid is a very expressive Foo Lion in golds reds and Gosu. The Koro stands almost 6'' tall and about 4'' wide. Signed in Gosu blue on the underside. A rare very well done piece. Incredible quality Japanese Meiji period Kutani koro and cover surmounted by a finely formed shi shi. Finely marked under the lid and the 2 seperate highly detailed panels on each side show a scene of a samurai and his followers and the other depicts a scene of samurai being entertained by a musical group and a dragon masked man.
