Antique French pate sur pate porcelain footed box. Made Limoges, in the best Sevres style, early 20th century. Measures 2 1/2 inches in diameter and 2 inches high. Box stands are 3 curving legs, shaped like dolphins, richly gilded. The colour scheme of the box is gold and white - white ground with delicate gold patterns and wider gilded borders to rims. In the center of the lid is a round reserve, encircled with raised ''jeweled'' or beaded gold orbs, encircling a soft green-grey ground with a pate sur pate miniature portrait of a woman seen in profile. Porcelain and decoration are of very good quality. Marked under the box with an N in a roped circular border with Limoges France in the circle. Handwritten underneath in red is N or V.552. The lid has a hand engraved mark that is very difficult to see, let alone photograph. It looks like Jalers or Jalen Limoges, but the first letter could be an F. Very good condition. Very rare signed ceramic box with painting of a wire haired Fox Terrier dog, painted by Flora R King. Made by the Rookwood Pottery Co. in Cincinnati, Ohio, USA 1946. Box is a little over 5 1/2 inches long; 3 1/4 inches wide and slightly over 2 inches high. Rectangular shape, rounded and convex at the terminals. Fitted lid that lifts off entirely. Colour is highly attractive powder blue with a slight grey/mauve tinge. T is a lighter coloured band near the top of the box. Inside of box is shaped and rounded. Lid has superb painting of a wire haired fox terrier dog. White with a brown patches over one eye and ear. Floppy ear, bright intelligent eye, looking at the viewer with something of an attitude. Nose looks as though it''s captured mid-twinge. Beautiful, subtle, soft colours. Superior quality of painting in every way. T are a number of impressed and incised marks under the box: Rookwood mark with XLVI, which stands for 1946. Under that is impressed 6922B, which is the model and size number. The incised marks are an 18, FK for the artist, Flora R King, and 258. Condition is very good. The glaze is crazed, but t are no chips/cracks/damage/restoration of any sort. Flora R King worked as an artist at Rookwood between 1945-1946. Her work is t fore very rare and of the highest quality, selling for many thousands of dollars on the rare occasions when it is found for sale. Pair of early dresser / vanity items dating to the early 20th century. One lidded box and a hair receptacle (used by Victorian women to collect hair).1 1/2inches high. Boxes are 2 3/4inches in diameter and lid is 3 1/2inches accross widest part.Round boxes in amber coloured fairly translucent bakelite. One lid is pink and one is green. They are made to look like a kind of silica.Inside, the lids are a rich orange-yellow colour.Good condition.
