Glendale, AZ

Dating back to 1892, Glendale is a town filed with red brick storefronts, sidewalks dotted with gaslights, and a downtown square. Glendale’s ten-block retail area, is not only a nice place to stroll, it’s also a nice place to go antiquing; about 100 shops reside here. Walk through these stores and you’ll find everything from 1920s oak furniture and other vintage items, to objects evoking the Old West, to décor items sourced internationally, especially Asia. When it comes to shows and special antique events, Glendale has a nice variety of those to choose from as well. Noteworthy ones worth attending include Glendale’s Gaslight Antique Walk, and area shows such as the Fairgrounds Antique Market in Phoenix, and the Scottsdale Fine Art & Antique Market, also in Phoenix.

When it’s time to refuel from a long day of antiquing, Glendale has many restaurants and museums to revel in. Highlights include the Bead Museum, the Historic Sahuaro Ranch, the Phoenix Art Museum, and the Heard Museum. There’s also a lively performing arts scene, Phoenix’s Heritage Square and outside Scottsdale, Frank Lloyd Wright’s winter home and studio, Taliesin West, a museum and educational center dedicated to his work.
