Antique Georgian Oak Bureau Bookcase http://www.antiques.com/classified/1040031/Antique-Georgian-Oak-Bureau-Bookcase Circa: 1820 width: 35 height: 81 length: 18 this antique carved oak bureau was hand-crafted in georgian england around 1820. The wood has aged beautifully, developing a lovely patina that enriches the natural luster of the ebonized oak. Combined with the marvelously intricate carvings that cover the face of this piece, the result of this patina is a striking and timeless bureau that will continue to astound the eye for centuries more to come. Unique sphinx-stamped brass pulls complement the dark oak quite wonderfully; several of the handles also appear to have been replaced and are slightly different than one another. The bookcase, fall, and middle drawer still lock with an accompanying set of keys, while the top and bottom drawers no longer lock. This piece easily separates into the bookcase and bureau sections, with the top securing into the bottom with a pair of screws. Each drawer of course features hand-cut dovetails, and the shaped bracket feet remain as sturdy as they are elegant. This bureau bookcase has sustained some superficial wear, including a typical assortment of old dings and marks, although most of these marks are very minor and hardly show. Several separations between the boards have, however, developed in the bureau face and sides. These separations are purely cosmetic, so they do not affect the structural integrity of the piece, and all solid wood pieces eventually see this kind of separation after about 100-200 years. The overall condition of this magnificent georgian bureau bookcase therefore remains very good.

Also, all of the teardrop pulls that originally would have been attached to the cabinet doors have been removed, leave only the mounts to which they were once attached; the mounts are still easily turned, so the doors open with ease as they always have. Overall condition therefore remains very good.

Restored Antique Victorian Mahogany Bow Front Sideboard http://www.antiques.com/classified/1040070/Restored-Antique-Victorian-Mahogany-Bow-Front-Sideboard Circa: 1890 width: 72 height: 36.5 length: 25 this flame mahogany bow front sideboard was hand-crafted in victorian england around 1890. Recently, the sideboard underwent a light restoration, which involved the addition of a new french polish with a final coating of hand-rubbed wax. The result is a remarkably beautiful sideboard that displays a deep, lustrous complexion and a striking grain that have grown more beautiful over the years with the development of a lovely patina. The mahogany crossbanding along the top and the solid brass pulls, which are original to the sideboard, also contrast beautifully with the flame mahogany, while the bow front shape itself is quite elegant. The tambor cabinet completes the incredibly stylish appearance of this sideboard for a timeless look that looks fantastic in any setting. With a total of four drawers and a cabinet, this sideboard contains a great deal of useful storage space. One of the drawers is a double thickness, allowing storage of larger items, while the central drawer is felt-lined and divided for silverware. Each drawer of course features hand-cut dovetails, which was a high-quality standard during the victorian period. The square tapered legs remain as sturdy as they are elegant. This sideboard has, however, sustained some light wear, mostly in the form of minor imperfections in the wood that have developed in the drawer fronts and banding, but also as superficial separations in the wood on each of the sides. This kind of separation represents a natural stage in the aging process, so it appears in all antiques, and it does not affect structural integrity. Antique Victorian Carved Oak Sideboard http://www.antiques.com/classified/1040073/Antique-Victorian-Carved-Oak-Sideboard Circa: 1890 width: 62 height: 91 length: 24 this exquisite antique oak sideboard was hand-crafted in victorian england around 1890. Clearly fashioned by a master craftsman, the carvings show a remarkable level of detail and include several familiar motifs. Among these are the four cherubs (or puttos, as they are sometimes called), a man and woman, the lion heads at the corners and on the doors, and the lion occupying the center of the crest. Combined with the decorative patterns carved on nearly every surface of this sideboard, these striking visual themes come together to create a piece so beautiful that it certainly merits praise as a work of art. One could easily imagine that the carver(s) responsible for the intense detail in this sideboard regarded their work as the pinnacle of their craft. This sideboard of course places aesthetic pleasure alongside function, and with a large drawer, a locking lower cabinet, a large counter, and two tiers, this sideboard certainly is functional. The drawer of course features hand-cut dovetails, and the shaped bracket feet remain as sturdy as they are elegant--as does the piece in its entirety. The top still mounts the base with relative ease: while it is quite heavy, it sits into several slots carved into the base, and then screws securely together. However, this sideboard has sustained a normal assortment of wear and minor damage, although all cases of this are minor. One of the cherubs, for instance, has been repaired, and the panels on the backsplash have developed separations in the wood, as have the two tiers. The also counter shows a variety of minor stains and wear marks, and several areas show signs of inactive woodworm that was treated decades ago. However, this is only to be expected of a piece of this age, and it is a wonder and a testament to the quality of this sideboard that it remains in such fantastic condition today.

English Antique Style Vertical Four-drawer Walnut File Cabinet http://www.antiques.com/classified/1040074/English-Antique-Style-Vertical-Four-Drawer-Walnut-File-Cabinet Circa: 2000 width: 26 height: 61 length: 26 this vertical four-drawer file cabinet was recently hand-crafted by a third-generation english cabinetmaker. Using the finest materials available, including a stunning selection of burl walnut and solid brass hardware, this incredibly strong file cabinet glows with a rich, classic appearance that results from a combination between traditional georgian style design and high-quality materials. The burl walnut simply looks stunning, due in part to its striking contrast with walnut crossbanding and solid brass hardware, including swan neck style pulls and winged escutcheons. Additionally, the wood has been hand-distressed, hand-finished and hand-waxed to produce a deep, lustrous character, while the fine quality of the finish and wax will help to preserve the wood for centuries to come. The great advantage of the vertical file cabinet is that it utilizes space that often goes unused and at the same time saves more floor space than a lateral file cabinet, leaving you to enjoy a larger office. With four full file drawers, this file cabinet also offers plenty of storage space under lock and key, as all five drawers lock. Each drawer accommodates both legal- and letter-sized files and features high-grade metal rails. This high standard of quality is maintained from top to bottom, where lovely ogee bracket feet provide strong support (although other foot types can be chosen). The feet used in this file cabinet are quite thick and because of their somewhat arched design and knees, they are much stronger than straight feet, a discovery queen anne craftsmen made when perfecting the similarly jointed cabriole leg in the early 18th century.

Antique Georgian Carved Oak Server http://www.antiques.com/classified/1040075/Antique-Georgian-Carved-Oak-Server Circa: 1800 width: 49.5 height: 60 length: 23 this exquisitely carved antique server was crafted in georgian england around the year 1800. For the succeeding centuries, this piece underwent an interesting and varied series of alterations that have resulted in a palpable tapestry of historical craftsmanship. To begin with, the frame and many sections of this server were probably made during the 18th century, while some repairs were made around 1800. The columns, for instance, appear to have once been part of another piece, as they have marks where a stretcher once would have joined them. Meanwhile, the counter, the pulls, and all but the fronts of the drawers were replaced later during the victorian period, closer to the close of the 19th century. The backsplash, which itself bears visible signs of wear and repair, also appears to have been added at this time; a view of the back of the piece reveals the striking difference between the wood used in the upper and lower parts of the piece. The result of over two centuries of modifications have thus produced a remarkably beautiful carved oak server that remains as sturdy as it is elegant. While the server does show a variety of superficial wear marks, these are only normal in a piece of this age and background, and in fact they contribute to the unique and charming character of this server. Overall condition therefore remains very good.
