Circa 1870 http://www.antiques.com/classified/1103361/Antique-An-Impressive-Pair-of-Renaissance-Louis-XVI-Revival-Gilt-Tabernacle-Overmantel-Mirrors-63x61--Circa-1870 These mirrors can be attributed to the âlooking glass establishmentâ of herman fersenheim of 76 beekman st., nyc. very similar mirrors are pictured and described on page 358 of the february, 1976 issue of the magazine antiques. photographs depict this genre of overmantel mirror gracing rooms in the white house in the 1880âs. these are typical architectural style mirrors in what is known as âthe column styleâ. ⢠palmettes with scrolls grace the acroteria adorning each pediment. ⢠graduated beads adorn the scrolls on either side of the palmettes. ⢠the frieze is ornamented with a pair of lozenge-shaped relief carvings, terminating in fleurs-de-lis. ⢠ancones surmounted with palm leaves support each capital. ⢠a cluster of fruit depends from the scrolls supporting each palmette. ⢠strawberries depend from the central scrolls supporting the acroteria. ⢠cornucopia support the smaller scrolls beneath the central palmette or coquillage. ⢠the original, heavy plate glass in these looking glasses is brilliant, true, unclouded and nearly flawless, even after almost 140 years. ⢠overall height is 63 inches. ⢠overall width is 61 inches. ⢠small cracks in the gesso are apparent. There is one chipped area on the top of the cornice of the north mirror where a repair has been made. Overall, however, these mirror frames are in wonderful shape for their age. these mirrors provide a crucial decorative feature for any serious restoration of a brownstone, late 19th century townhouse or 19th century estate. The pair have been used upon the north and south walls of a vaulted gallery room for years but could serve well adorning formal rooms off of a central foyer. It is unusual to come upon a matched pair of these rare, stately looking glasses. these mirrors are currently seated upon gold-painted wooden supports in lieu of the mantels which they should adorn. The supports can remain with the mirrors, should the buyer so desire. the photograph of the north mirror shows the south mirror, facing it, in reflection. all items are sold "as is". These are antique looking glasses; small nicks and scratches are part of the beauty of an antique and are not described unless significant. these looking glasses may be picked up in acton, ma. a freight delivery can be arranged for destinations beyond our local pick-up area. E-mail for a freight estimate. these mirrors were purchased at auction in the philadelphia area in the early 1950âs. They were subsequently moved to massachusetts. They still have their wooden packing crates from the move to massachusetts. Please ask any questions prior to offering to purchase.

Massachusetts Shaker Style Ladder Back Rush Seated Arm Chair Circa 1790-1820 http://www.antiques.com/classified/1138055/Antique-Massachusetts-Shaker-Style-Ladder-Back-Rush-Seated-Arm-Chair-----Circa-1790-1820 This chair was found in an old house in lancaster, ma. There was a shaker colony directly to the east of lancaster in harvard, ma, and another directly to the north of lancaster in shirley, ma. We cannot say that this is definitely a shaker chair, but it does have a certain characteristics of the shaker style, with its fairly plain stiles and stretchers. It is most certainly made by hand. There is a certain uneven quality to its construction; the left hand facing rear stile is 45â in height while the right hand facing rear stile is 44 ½â in height; however, the vasiform turnings at the base of the legs are of uniform height. There are hand-made square nails used in its construction. this is a four (4) slat ladder back arm chair which retains an old stained surface. it has four back slats which are curved on top and flat on the bottom, indicating a new england origin. The slats are made of oak; the rest of the chair is most probably ash or maple. The rush seat is in useable condition; there are several small areas of broken rush but the seat is still sturdy. it has shaped arms terminating in round pad hand rests which show plenty of wear. the stiles are topped with acorn and nipple finials which also display a great deal of wear. the plain turned double front stretchers also display wear. the legs terminate in vasiform turnings below the lower stretchers. The front stiles display the same vasiform turnings above the seat rail and below the hand rests. ⢠rear stile height is 45â/44 ½ â from floor. ⢠seat height is 16 ½â. ⢠seat width at front is 17â. ⢠seat width at rear is 15 ½â. ⢠seat depth is 14â. ⢠width at top of stiles is 15 ½â. ⢠there are 7 stretchers; 2 on each side, two in the front and one at the rear. ⢠weight is 13 lbs. this chair is solid and sturdy; the joints are tight and the rush is serviceable, although broken in several small places. The old stained surface is worn, especially on the arms, the front stretchers and the backs of the slats. There are nicks and scratches on the legs, stiles and slats, expected in a chair approaching 220 years of age. this chair may be picked up in boylston, ma. We can arrange for delivery within 100 miles. please e-mail for a delivery estimate with your location and particulars. if shipping is needed, please email for a quote to your destination. all items are sold "as is". She is wearing a very jaunty, gilt leghorn bonnet with a white ruffled mobcap beneath. Her gown is extravagantly enameled with gilt leaves and raised gilt dots. Her apron is filled with delicate, colored flowers and a floral sprig nestles in her low cut bodice. A gilt peplum flairs from her tightly cinched waist in the back. ⢠she is holding a corner of her apron in her right hand and a water jug in her left hand. Unfortunately, the jug handle has not survived. ⢠at some point in time, her left leg was broken just under the skirt hem.
