this moody and interesting etching depicts the writer george bernard shaw at the zoo; even serious writers need to have some fun! This is a a beautiful bright yellow and pink floral late 1920's - 1930's gatsby dress! There is so much to say about this dress. The fabric is a lovely lightweight yellow with bright pink, blue gray and green flowers. It is fully lined ( we relined it) it has 4 snaps on the side. The bodice has lace with little flowers and an attached shawl cape that ties in the front. The bottom of dress just flutters with fabric. There is a spot on the lace which is covered by the shawl cape when worn. It looks like the spot may come out. Just did not want to attempt it. This dress is in great shape and adorable! Could be worn for a vintage garden wedding!.

born in romania in 1895, harry gottlieb became an important 20th century american artist. At the end of ww i, involved with the provincetown players theatre company of new york, he met the young platwright eugene o'neill and designed the sets for some of his first performances. A social realist, he was one of the premier artists to be honored with a one-man show at the whitney museum of art in new york, which still holds one of the best collections of gottlieb's paintings, drawings and prints. Gottlieb was a founding member of both the w. P. A. And the artists' league of america. This work is rendered in ink, with watercolor wash; the hand-carved frame is believed to have been made by the artist. kathe kollwitz (german, 1867-1945) is regarded as one of the most important german artists of the 20th century (a great deal of information about her is available online - www.Kaethe-kollwitz.De/ , for example). She began producing etchings in 1880, and from 1898-1903 she taught at the berlin school of women artists. It is believed that this work - the original of which was created in 1904 - is from the von der becke edition, printed between 1965 and 1972 from the original plates. offered is a beautiful little etching by davis f(rancis) schwartz (american, 1879-1969). Born in kentucky, schwartz studied in ohio & montreal before beginning a career in art illustration. He worked as an illustrator for newspapers including the los angeles times (after moving to california in 1903), but in 1915 abandoned commercial work for fine art. In 1924, elected as the artist for the state board of harbor commissioners, he came to san francisco, where he maintained a studio for some 30 years in the famous ferry building. His works are held in many public and private collections. This etching depicts china camp, on the shores of san pablo bay, one of the northern reaches of san francisco bay. Today it is a state park, but in the 1880s a chinese shrimping village thrived on the site, housing some 500 people from canton, china. Pencil signed, lower right. This is a lovely and different hand bag made by soure´bags new york . The black patent is beautiful and luxuirous and the front is a floral needlepoint. It is interesting because it is not fully fully covered. I thought may be there was something missing because the there is shadow or darker portions to the needle point fabric. I took it our local needle point store and said this is on purpose the interior has a zipper pocket and a nice vinyl material. The hand bag is in excellent condition!
