An exceptional pair of william matthew prior (1806-1873) original and authentic circa 1850-1860 of george and martha washington. Prior was an itinerant painter from massachusetts, whom also did work in maine and maryland. They are reverse painted on glass and are in outstanding condition. There is negligible damage to the paint, they are in the original frames and have never been removed form them, they still have the untouched original wooden back and square nails. There is a possibility that the back of george was opened and viewed, martha is untouched. You will find that the glass is perfect and if that is not enough this is the largest example that i could find anywhere measuring overall 27" x 23". As with most prior paintings these are also unsigned. See skinner november 8, 2009 sale number 2482 lot number 55. Fully guaranteed to be as described and to be by the artist.
