George IV, dated 1829 1829 Silkwork Sampler by Ann W. Taylor. Framed in an old wood frame with gilt slip and glass. Mounted to conservator standards on acid free card with chipboard backing (the sampler is also glued around the edge to its previous mounting fabric, which our restorer could not remove without damaging the sampler). The sampler is worked in silk on canvas ground, in a variety of stitches. Meandering floral border. Colours green, yellow, copper, brown and gold. Alphabets A-Z in upper case, numbers 1-10, and family initials. Verse reads ''Seize, mortal! Seize the transient hour;> Improve each moment as it flies:> Life''s a short summer - man a flow''r> He dies - alas! - how soon he dies!''. Signed and dated ''Ann W. Taylor''s work. Aged 10 Years. Bedlington 1829''. Bedlington is a town in Northumberland, England. A scattering of motifs, including stags, flowers, dogs, crowns, potted flowering plants and fruit baskets. Good. One hole. A few stains. Very minor stitch loss to the last line of the verse. Colours are slightly faded, but still well defined. No colour run. Stretching is slightly uneven. Frame in good condition, ready to hang. 19ins by 18.75ins wide
