George IV, dated 1822 1822 Silkwork Sampler by Elizabeth Ormrod. Framed in an old wood and gilt frame with rippled, old glass. Tacked to wood with card backing. The sampler is worked in silk on canvas ground, in a variety of stitches. Meandering floral border. Colours gold, cream, green, light brown, light green and black. Verse reads ''World adieu ! thou real cheat,> Oft have thy deceitful charms> Fill''d my heart with fond conceit ,> Foolish hopes , and false alarms :> Now I see as clear as day> How thy follies pass away ,> Let not , Lord , my wand''ring mind> Follow after fleeting toys ,> Since in thee alone I find> Solid and substantial joys :''. Signed and dated ''ELIZABETH ORMROD AGED 11 1822''. A good set of motifs, including flowers, peacocks, potted flowering plants, stars and an angel. Generally good. One tiny hole. A couple of small dark specks, and uniform age darkening of the ground. Very minor stitch loss to the border on right hand side. Colours are all good and strong with no noticeable fading. The silks bright and glossy. No colour run. Unevenly stretched, with the border partly hidden behind the frame along both sides. Frame is worn, but structurally sound and ready to hang. 18.75ins by 17.25ins wide
