This piece has been SOLD. Traditionally, as can be seen on our example, the Omani Khanjar has seven silver rings on the front of the scabbard, bound by silver wire. There are, in addition, two silver concho like, chased discs adorning the rings. The horn hilt has a silver design inlaid and is banded at the base with chased silver. It is of either rhino or buffalo, uncertain which. All of the copious silver work is finely chased and engraved. According to Elgood, Omani silver work is the best in Arabia. The silver is nicely patinated and has not been cleaned for decades. The olive green velvet which covers a portion of the mid scabbard is worn and merits some restoration as is the case with the small leather area on the back. The very good, solid steel blade has some small areas of light spotting and light abrasion but should clean nicely if one chooses to do so. A good example of a mid to late 19th Century Omani Khanjar. Happy to supply additional photos or information on request.
