Retailed by Tiffany & Co. circa 1885, this French Louis XV style gilt bronze wall clock. The drum case is suspended by finely detailed bronze chased ribbon tied ornament surmounted by musical instruments, flanked by cornucopia issuing leaves, fruit and flowers, above a Bacchus mask and two branches with flowerhead candlecups and a fruiting vine wreath. Bacchus is the promoter of civilizaton,lawgiver, lover of peace and patron of agriculture and the theater. The bronzework is impressed with FRANCE and numbered 3947, the white enamel dial with Arabic numerals, inscribed Tiffany & Co. and FRANCE. The finest French twin train movement featuring no recoil dead beat escapement, rack and snail striking is impressed 64130 and LES FRERES DELISLE, FRANCE, includes the beautifully clear French bell which sounds on the half and hour. height 25 3/4in (65.5cm)
