This item is a charming little grey pottery container from the Han Dynasty of ancient China (or perhaps earlier). It has soil encrustations and traces of root fibers on the surface. The really neat thing about this piece is that the lid is sealed tight . Judging from the weight and the rattle it makes when you shake it I would bet that there are remnants of the original contents still inside. What an exciting project for the professional or amateur archaeologist. It has one remaining suspension ring that s visible in the photos. Three others have been broken off over the last few thousand years but the rest of the piece is remarkable intact and un-repaired. It weighs 732 grams and measures only a little under 12 cm in height. This is one of the most interesting pieces of ancient pottery you are likely to find.
