DAVID COPPERFIELD - Born 1812, Died 1870 ''Like many fond parents,'' wrote Charles Dickens, ''I have in my heart of hearts a favorite child. And his name is David Copperfield.'' First published in book form in November 1850, Dickens'' own favorite among his works is his most autobiographical novel, boasting a wealth of adventure and suspense as well as an unparalleled gallery of the author''s most memorable characters. This Walter Scott edition has all of the Art Nouveau beauty of the cover and the illustrations Dickens himself selected to complement his words.'' This lovely volume has been with me since I was a child. I bought it in England on my first trip to the other side of the pond. It is in good condition the binding is secure and all of the 533 pages are readable. There is visable foxing through out and the front inside cover has a small tear to the paper. The first black page is missing. The edges of the outside spine show how many times I read it and it was vintage when I bought it in the early 1950''s. It is undated but I would place it as published around 1905 byThe Walter Scott Publishing Co. Ltd of London and New York. There are forty illustrations. The cover has typical Art Nouveau decoration of vines of orange to red poppies and the name plate is in embossed gold. This is a lovely gift for a special young person interested in adventure and fiction as well as commentary on the times.
