Country of Origin:USA Style:RENAISSANCE REVIVAL Maker:JOHN JELLIFF Condition:Mint Year:18605 piece oversize rosewood parlour suite by John Jelliff. This style is very rare and has an unusual mallard green fabric. All the pieces are large scale with nice carving on crests and all pieces have Jenny Lind heads on the arms. John Jelliff pieces which are to be found in most major museum collections are highly sought after. He was one of the most important cabinet makers in the 19th C. His Newerk New Jersey workshop produced fine furnature from 1843-1890 and is best known for Renaissance Gothic Revival parlour funtiture. The female head on his furniture reflects the Goddess-like face of Jenny Lind the opera star who P.T. Barnum introduced to this country around 1850. These chairs have nicely carved crests and female figures on each arm.
