Victorian, circa 1880 Pair Staffordshire donkeys modeled with panniers on their backs. They stand on naturalistic oval bases with applied shredded clay decoration, in front of a stream. Three legs of each molded free. Bright gilt line to base front. Decorated all round. Vent hole to bases and reverses. Similar pair illustrated figure 2929/2930, page 245, Schiffer''s ''Victorian Staffordshire Figures 1835-1875'' Book 2, by A.& N. Harding. Good. No cracks. No hairlines. Rubbing to gilt.
