8 Pointed Star Quilt - Item #2107051 - For Sale

8 Pointed Star Quilt - Item #2107051
Price: $6500.00
This is a very early quilt that is signed and dated 1821 with a label stitched into the side edge of the quilt pattern. It is white with a pieced 8 pointed star pattern done in a pink and green tiny floral pattern fabric. This quilt is hand pieced and hand quilted with a cotton batting. The hand quilting is exceptional. It has 14 to 16 stitched per inch and has stipple quilting as shown in the pictures. The quilt itself is 84" x 84" but the sides have a strip of handmade lace 3 inches wide plus a 4" linen fabric border and the bottom has the same 3" handmade lace plus a 9" wide border. The edges of the quilt have a saw tooth pattern border in addition to the added lace and linen edging. The backing is the same white fabric as the front. There are no stains but light fading and some deterioration of the pink fabric. The tiny green dyed flowers on the pink fabric are deteriorating with age probably due to the type of dye used to create the green flowers.

The extremely dense hand quilting makes this a beautiful work of art. This type of hand quilting stopped being done with the start of the civil war. This is one of the few truly exceptional hand quilted quilts left from this time period and the first quilting revival period. Overall, this is a fantastic quilt with wonderful graphics and the exceptional hand quilting from the early 1800's makes this a marvelous collectors item.

This quilt has been dated and appraised by 4 AQS certified appraisers.
