George IV, dated 1828 1828 Silkwork Sampler by Helen Dennis. Framed in an old, possibly original, wood frame with gilt slip and rippled, old glass. Mounted to conservator standards on acid free card with chipboard backing. The sampler is worked in silk on linen ground, in a variety of stitches. Meandering floral border. Colours gold, cream, red, green, magenta and light green. Verse reads ''All you friends who now expect to see.> A piece of needle work performed by me:> Cast but a Smile. on this my small Endeavour> I''ll strive to mend and be Obedient ever.''. Signed and dated ''Helen Dennis Her Work Aged 9 Years 1828''. A good set of motifs, including flowers, fruit baskets, birds, butterflies, fir trees and potted flowering plants. Generally Good. Several holes. No stains other than uniform age darkening of the ground in the centre. Very minor stitch loss to one flower. Colours are slightly faded, but still well defined. No colour run. Neatly and evenly stretched. Frame in good condition, ready to hang. 16.25ins by 12.75ins wide
