Antique, 18th-19th century, of superb quality and very finely engraved German pewter plate -dish. The plate is completely hand engraved with a portrait of Frederick the Great: King of Prussia in the oval medallion at the center, wearing his favorite uniform of the Prussian Life Guards, with the breast-star of the Royal Prussian Order of the Black Eagle, and the tricorn hat adorned with ribbon cockade. Medallion is surrounded by a panoply of arms and armor, banners and cannons, and leaves with the crowned shield with his royal, "FR" Cypher, Friedrich Rex, (King Friedrich). The front rim engraved with “Friedrich. II.” and garlands. The back is stamped with Touch mark Grünewald Bayreuth 1716 Fein Zinn, accompanied by two other Touch marks. The pewterers Family Grünewald of Bayreuth were active from beginning of 18th century to the second halve of the 19th century. The touch marks used in this period of time were almost identical except for bearing the differed date below the angle. The engraving on the plate was executed later, most likely in the late 18th century, or first half of the 19th century.


CONDITION: Showing the age and usage with minor scratches. Free of cracks, holes or repairs.
