Here is a very important silver-mounted English plug bayonet dating to around circa 1700. This fine important is a perfect 10! Beautiful burled walnut grip with no chips or cracks, perfect helmet head pommel and quillions. Long slightly curved blade is pewter colored has a beautiful speckled patina with no deep pitting. All superficial, only light where the false edge starts and towards the tip. Lots of charm!
Original leather scabbard is perfect with no damage or repairs and is tooled full length, see photos. Original silver mounts! Locket has, also, a matching helmeted head, on its clasp and its chape is decorated en-suite. Bayonet & scabbard are 28 ½” overall.
THE TOP EDGE OF THE SCABBARD WAS TOOLED WITH LETTERING AT THE TIME OF MANUFACTURE AND READS “NO UNION”. PROTESTING THE HISTORIC UNION OF ENGLAND AND SCOTLAND IN 7107.
