Rare and investment quality Clyde Burt Pottery ribbed vase. Great abstract design with excellent color and glaze. MINT CONDITION. No chips, cracks, damage or repair of any kind. Bottom marked with CB. Vase is 6 1/2" tall and 5 1/4" wide. Clyde Burt was born in 1922 and passed away in 1981. He studied at the Fort Wayne Art School, Cape Cod School of Art and did graduate work at The Cranbrook Academy of Art, under Maija Grotell. Burt's work is in the collection of the Smithsonian American Art Museum and the Chicago Museum of Art. Exhibited at the Ceramic Nationals from 1954-1958.   « Less

Harris Strong is best known for his mid century tile panels, but he also made pottery, albeit for a short time and early in his career. The masked sgraffito stick man on this bowl can also be found on some of Strong''s earliest tiles, usually double framed with a wide linen mat and a rectangular paper label on the back. The boomerang shaped bowl undulates from a low 1 3/4 inches at the base of his foot to a high point of 2 7/8 inches at the top of his head. The figure lies across the matte aqua colored background decorated by an incised black line with raised white enamel accents. A bird is perched on his raised knee. The bowl is 14 inches wide ad nearly 7 inches in depth/ The exterior is covered in a glossy black glaze. The base is marked with an incised C-40 The condition remains excellent with gentle crazing, perhaps purposeful, to the aqua interior. There are no chips, cracks, or restorations.
