Pine knife box with hinged compartments and little brass knobs. It measures 18 cm high including the handle, and 37.5 cm by 26 cm. Basically very sound, but with some of the marks of old (very dead!) woodworm, small splits, slightly wonky hinges etc. Very charming, and still very usable. 19th century provincial.
