Exquisite antique gilt bronze nude female dancer with bells on her armband dancing with a flower in her left hand. The sculpture is in excellent condition. Her right foot rests on a jester, under the jester a tambourine. The bronze has the Jollets Paris foundry seal. It is inscribed Felix Charpentier on the right side as you face the sculpture along the base. Felix Maurice Charpentier 1858-1924, was born in Bollene on January 10, 1858 and died in Paris on December 7, 1924. He studied with Cavalier at the School of Beautiful Arts in Paris. He exhibited at the Paris salons from 1884, winning several medals. Regarded as one of the most outstanding sculptors of his day. His work is characterized by powerful sentiments and expressions. The execution of his sculpture is marked by freedom of expression, beauty of form, and personified art at its most harmonious. His chief work was the monument celebration of the Centenary of the French Annexation of Venaissian, but his lesser works included genre and allegorical groups in plaster, marble, and bronze. This sculpture is very lifelike, you can almost hear her breathing and she is anatomically perfect.
