This is a fabulous antique heart of pine mantel, dating from the 1870’s Aesthetic Movement, which retains its original gorgeous faux-grained finish. The mantel begins with a gracefully curved top, featuring three scallops in the center that are ornamented with subtle volute outlines. A shelf, supported at the sides with beautifully cut-out curved pieces meeting turned spindles, overhangs the beveled mirror. The mirror is flanked by rectangular panels, six on each side. Below the mirror is another shelf, above which are three beautifully grained panels. The shelf is held up by carved brackets, which extend down the mantel to a shelf just above the opening. The shelf extends in a quarter circle on the outside of each bracket, and the brackets continue on to the floor. The quarter-circle shelves are repeated near the base of the mantel. The mantel is in excellent condition, and the finish is also in excellent condition with a few minor stain rings on the shelf. It measures 86” tall, 68 ½” wide, is 9 ¼” deep, and has a firebox opening 42” wide and 30 ½” tall.
