With the Great War raging in Europe the United States remained uncertain about our involvement. In 1915 the National Security League commissioned a sculpture that recalled the highly romanticized success of the Rough Riders during the Cuba Campaign. This clean cut, assured soldier seems to be intended to put the country at ease during such troubled times. An attractive work of art with interesting historic significance. A sealed chalk sculpture.
