Commode scribanne XVIIIth century Vernis Martin / Chinese lacquer Scribanne Commode opening to two drawers and a flap on the front, decor "au Chinois". Slightly curved facade, it has an eventful cross on three sides between 4 feet roll. The decor Vernis Martin (for European productions, also called Chinese lacquer for Oriental productions) depict scenes of landscapes, animals and characters. Red background decorated with koi scales. Rare Baltimore cylinder desk circa 1820. PRICE REDUCTION. Research suggest built and designed by either William Camp or Edward Priestly circa 1820. The bust adorn the stiles on a group of Baltimore and Philadelphia furniture has created a lot of discussion around the inspirational source of this design. The desk belong to a group of furniture that embodies the discoveries made during Napoleon's invasion of North Africa and the Middle East. Some feature stiles that have tapered therms, with most topped with a turban head carving and finished with bare feet. The main body is tapered and linear containing vertical reeds framed by a flat edge running the perimeter with a delicate bead. The sub group of cylinder desk are rare as only 6 are known to exist. My desk is distinguished because of its turban less head carvings with relatively short hair and beard and has no tassels or breast coverings. It also retains its original finial and hardware. An interesting article about the "mummy Desk" was published in the Antique Road Insider August 2009, entitled "Mummy Dearest". PROVENANCE; The desk has been in same family since 1920's.
