We are pleased to offer this museum quality piece. This is an engraving by Giacomo Maria Giovannini (1667-1717), after a painting by Guercino (Giovanni Francesco Barbieri) (Italian, Cento 1591-1666 Bologna). The engraving is titled "Marte pronto combattere, tratenuto dal Genio allato". The image depicts a warrior held back by a winged cherub. The piece measures 12 3/4"x 9" and the frame (new, under glass) measures 18" x 22". Giovanninis work can be found in the Museum of Fine Arts and also the Metropolitan Museum of Arts. The piece is toned, creased and has minor loss. The back shows just a brown paper. Considering the piece is 300 years old I think its in pretty good shape. « Less

Here we have a 17th C. Italian hand colored engraving on laid paper, titled Avoltoio barbuto d'Africa. A handsome bearded vulture standing, no doubt overlooking the scenery for a quick meal. The words on the bottom read "All' Ill: Sig: Conte, e Barone Pietro Pierucci attualm Segret dell Imperial Societa Fisico-Bottanica Fiorent. The piece measures 14 1/2"x 11 1/2" and with the handsome maple frame it measures 21 1/2"x 18". Good condition, a little uplifting from the matte. The frame not original. « Less

A wonderful museum quality engraving from the 1600's. Peter Paul Troschel (German, 1620-1667) was the son of well known and listed artist Hans Troschel. Peter has had a few engravings come to auction with pleasant results. This piece depicts a horse rider and trainer (a similar piece came to auction a few years ago, only the trainer was on the right). The engraving measures 8"x 11 3/4" while the frame (old frame, under glass) measures about 26"x 20". A handsome ensemble together, would look great in an office or den. The engraving is in overall good condition, while the frame has some loss. The matte is a pinkish cream color. « Less
