A huanghuali wood Chinese "violin" called an erhu. The main body is carved from a single piece of huanghuali wood, its top stretched with snake skin of beautiful patterning. The bottom of the main body has a sound hole with an openwork carving of a stylized "shou" character meaning longevity (this bottom panel is a separate piece of wood). A boxwood carving of a dragon wraps around the end of the huanghuali fingerboard - it's mouth open and holding a moving glass ball of a blue-green color. The two pegs - also of boxwood - are carved with vertical fluting. Erhu is a kind of violin (fiddle) with two strings which, together with zhonghu, gaohu, sihu, etc, belongs to the "huqin" family. It is said that its origin would be dated up to the Tang dynasty (618-907) and related to the instrument, called xiqin originated from a Mongolian tribe Xi. During Song dynasty (960-1279), the second generation of the huqin was among the instruments played at the imperial banquets. During the Dynasties of Ming (1368-1644) and Qing (1644-1911), the erhu underwent a great development at the time of the golden age of the local operas Period: Late 18th Century. We have for sale a Weber square grand piano bearing serial number 22480, manufactured circa 1880. This piano is an antique. The piano is in good condition, back veneer needs replace otherwise exterior in very good condition. Ivory missing on one key. Well cared for, normal wear and tear for age. Maintained in a climate controlled residential environment. The piano needs tuned. The pianos of this make have been held in high esteem by artists and the musical public. The square grand piano was the instrument of choice in most fashionable homes. They were produced from about 1850 to about 1880, and were usually hand made with intricately carved rosewood, mahogany, or ebony cabinets. These pianos are well known for its tonal quality. The fact is that a professionally restored square piano is truly a beautiful and fascinating piece of musical antiquity. There has been a growing interest in these instruments. This revival of the square piano has caused the demand for these instruments to increase significantly, as well as their value. Many collectors consider them to be good investments. Many Victorian homes are purchasing square pianos to complete their music room or parlor. This piano has been appraised by Robert T. Furst - Author, Bluebook of Pianos. The price we are asking is not near the price of the appraisal. The piano stands 38 3/4 inches tall by 81 inches by 39 3/4 inches. The weight is unknown.
