circa: 2000 width: 42 height: 80 length: 19 This walnut secretary bookcase, also known as a bureau desk, is crafted in England by a traditional cabinetmaker. The burl walnut, which is treated to an elaborate finishing process, displays a rich complexion and grain, which are complemented wonderfully by optional satinwood inlays and brass hardware. The leather-inlaid desk, which locks with an accompanying key, also looks quite elegant, while the desk itself provides a variety of drawers and compartments for convenient office storage. Four exterior drawers, each built with sturdy dovetailed joints, also offer storage space, while the locking bookcase, which features antique style astragal glazed doors, contains two shelves. This secretary bookcase also comes with an optional pediment that screws into the bookcase, and is available in flame mahogany. « Less

circa: 1820 width: 46 height: 99 length: 22 This Georgian mahogany secretaire bookcase was hand-crafted in England. The bottom was crafted in 1820 and restored. The top is newly made. The pediment is 7'' high and moulded. The bookcase has astragal glass fronts and alligator brackets. The bookcase has a lock and key with bone escutcheons. Each of the two shelves are movable. The bottom appears to have five drawers. However the top two drawers are in fact a fall front. The fall opens to reveal a cabinet with lock and key, seven drawers and eight pigeon holes. The writing surface is made of fine, green leather, bordered with hand-worked gold tooling. This area sits atop two graduated drawers. The bottom drawer is a full 14.5'' deep with the drawer above it measuring 6.5'' deep. All of the hardware is solid-brass and the drawer pulls are made in the classic Georgian style. The drawers have hand-crafted dovetailed joints and all of the escutcheons are made of bone. This secretaire sits atop sturdy shaped bracket feet. There are distress marks on the top and side (see pictures) but otherwise this Georgian mahogany secretaire bookcase is in very good condition and would make a fine investment for any home furniture collection! « Less

circa: 1910 width: 38 height: 78 length: 17 This beautiful English mahogany antique secretary was hand-crafted in Edwardian England around 1910 and recently imported to our antique furniture store here in Atlanta, GA, USA. Over the years, the mahogany has developed a rich patina, which enhances its deep, mellowed lustre. Satinwood string inlays provide subtle accents, while elegant solid-brass hardware contrast beautifully with the mahogany. The stained-glass doors are sturdy and operate smoothly, as do the drawers and fall. Each secretary drawer features hand-cut dovetailed joints, as was common in quality antique furniture, which signify sturdy construction and fine craftsmanship, and the lower two feature strong supports through their middles, ensuring long life and strong functionality. The back of this antique secretary features tongue-in-groove paneling, which is an older, seldom-used technique that indicates this bookcase was bench-made with care. The leaded glass doors make a rattle sound when opened, but all of the glass is in securely. The top and bottom sections of the secretary separate easily for shipping and movement, and can be secured with two accompanying screws. Like much antique English furniture, this antique secretary offers an elegant combination of utility and beauty that would make a fine addition to any home! « Less

circa: 2000 width: 38 height: 86 length: 18 This gorgeous secretary bookcase is crafted in England as a Georgian period reproduction. The flame mahogany displays an incredibly rich complexion and the striking grains that have made them so popular during the centuries of English furniture-making. Elegant shaped paneling and Georgian style brass pulls complement the wood beautifully, while the fall is inlaid with a writing surface of fine brown or green leather bordered by gold tooling. The bookcase features three adjustable shelves, while the cabinet contains a single stationary shelf and the secretary section features three drawers and several compartments. All three sections lock with an accompanying key, just as in genuine Georgian period furniture. Shaped bracket feet provide sturdy support and rest on removable casters. The two sections separate for shipping and easy movement, so there is no need to worry a bout fitting this piece through narrow spaces. Without a doubt, this lovely Georgian style secretary bookcase would make a fine addition to any home or office! « Less
