Origin: Ghana Circa: 18 th Century AD Dimensions: 4.33" (11.0cm) high Collection: African Style: Akan Medium: Gold This dramatic bracelet would once have been worn by a chieftain or queen-mother from the Akan peoples. They are known as benfra (benfena or berenfena) bracelets and are usually worn on the left-wrist or forearm. They are cast in two halves and joined by a pin. They do not seem to have any specific symbolic meaning beyond a desire for conspicuous display of wealth. The finest, like this example, have a complex spiky design with additional incisions of parallel lines and concentric circles. They were hollow-cast around a clay core and then decorated with modelled designs. They are also known to have been produced in silver or gilded wood.   « Less

Antique Victorian diamond and 18k gold ring - perfect as an engagement or wedding ring. Made circa 1880-1900. Measurements and sizes: Approx US size 5; 14mm accross the bezel. Weighs 4 grams. S11 Diamonds - the center stone 0.45-0.5carat; the two on either side about 0.25 carat. Old European cut. Fascinating design - a stylised flower with scrolls, all set with diamonds of varying sizes. The shoulders are triple branched or triple-leaved, as they are in the form of 3 leaves. Particularly beautiful setting. No hallmarks but tests as at least 18k gold. Good condition. Antique, Victorian earrings. 14carat gold set with turquoise and pearls. Made 1830 - 1870. Measurements: 1 3/4 inches long. Weigh 6.9 grams. Suspended from a gold globe on a stud (replacing the original wirework), the surmount in the form of a bow, set with cabochon turquoise. This is attached to band of cabochons that loops around itself, like an irregular number 8 and is surrounded on the sides by foliage in applied gold leaves. Within the larger, upper loop of the ''8'', are dangling suspended tiny gems -a pearl and turquoise. The lower looping band also suspends a pair of gold leaves, matching those on the outer border with a larger pearl forming the bottom terminal. The earrings combine a fairly large size with great delicacy in the design and workmanship, and therefore suitable for all sizes and tastes and do not drag the earlobe down despite their size. Classic, well made Victorian earrings that are great for either day or night wear, with colours that match and enhance every complexion. No hallmarks, but test for 14k gold. Good condition.
