Cleaver''s Soap (circa 1910) - 58 x 79 inches HUGE AND FABULOUS! ''It''s not all that often that one comes across a soap poster deserving of a rim shot, but the clever wordplay on display in this exceptional 4-sheet design definitely qualifies. Though it''s very likely that an additional text sheet may be missing from the poster;s far bottom - a sheet which may carry the quippy narrative even further - the tragicomic visuals that appear are definitely worth one''s attention, from the sinking shooner in the distance to the shipwrecked, yet poised and spic-and-span maiden in the foreground. And what soap could deliver such pristine lovely results? Why Cleaver''s, of course.'' (Rennert) Research indicates that Cleaver''s was probably made with a plant from the madder family, called Galium apparine, which has hooked bristles on the stem and leaves, and very fine white flowers. Listen, if it saved her from being ship-wrecked, maybe it would work for you too? We LOVE this poster - it''s enormous, it''s in great A condition (there is a tiny flake off on of her knees which we have taken a picture of, but it''s teeny tiny and we did it just for the purposes of being diligent), and it''s just a little wacky... PLEASE NOTE: ALL OF OUR POSTERS ARE ORIGINAL, NON REPRODUCTION, VINTAGE PIECES. We are happy to ship worldwide - price quoted is for SURFACE mail. Expedited quotes available at additional cost at time of purchase. We will answer any questions, and/or send additional photos upon request. Thanks for your interest. Bouat, Louis 45 x 61 We just picked this piece up in France, in a town with a wonderful shoreline and a variety of bars where you can just imagine a woman such as the one pictured - with a twinkle in her eye (and I just can't decide if it's a twinkle that says I'm looking for trouble' or a twinkle that says 'gee, this is the best lemonade I have ever tasted' - maybe a combination of both??)... unsurprisingly, as I love every one of the posters I sell, I love this one too: very Art Deco, very clean lines, and very elegant in it's message: this is good stuff, it comes from Aveze, it tastes great and you should buy it. Pretty simple, no? Great condition, linen lined, large (approx. 45 x 61 inches) we think this piece would look great ANYWHERE! #1050   « Less

There''s something about the way the French love their wine that makes me smile: it''s almost innocent... the caption ''goutez moi ca'' translates loosely as ''wow, you gotta taste this!'' And the smile on the bewigged gentleman is full of wonder at the glass which he is holding. It doesnt get better than this. Found in Marseilles and brought back to the gallery on a recent buying trip, this handsome bloke will look great in your dining room, bar, kitchen... just about anywhere! He''s full of colour, doesn''t show his age at all (except no one wears wigs anymore)... we love him! (Other poster dealers are selling him for almost twice what we are selling him for...) Call us twisted - and you wouldnt be the first! - but an alcohol advertised as the choice of the athlete makes us giggle. (Bonal aperitif is an alcoholic drink made from wild gentiane found in the Chartreuse mountains). We love the depth of color, the texture and oomph of this poster - powerful and very, very Art Deco. Art Deco was a popular international art design movement from 1925 until the 1940s, affecting the decorative arts such as architecture, interior design and industrial design, as well as the visual arts such as fashion, painting, the graphic arts and film. At the time, this style was seen as elegant, glamorous, functional and modern. The movement was a mixture of many different styles and movements of the early 20th century, including Neoclassical, Constructivism, Cubism,Modernism, Art Nouveau, and Futurism. Its popularity peaked in Europe during the Roaring Twenties and continued strongly in the United States through the 1930s. Although many design movements have political or philosophical roots or intentions, Art Deco was purely decorative. (wikipedia) Charles Lemmel produced a variety of posters for Bonal, each featuring smiling and virile athletes. Measuring 23.5 x 31 inches, this poster is linen lined and in very good condition ... Many of the posters created for France''s war effort during WWI are so moving and special... they somehow evoke meaning and significance, while at the same time keeping the message front and center. Often called France''s ''secret weapon'' in the battle for public approval and funding of the war, they were credited with rallying the entire French populace behind the war effort with arguably the most artistically impressive and moving group of posters ever produced. This one is signed by Chavannez but I can find no information on the artist. Printed in 1918, it bears the #13370 and is in excellent condition. This poster is in excellent condition and is linen backed. It measures 44 x 30.5 inches and would look wonderful framed. All of our posters, prints and pochoirs are authentic, vintage items. . The posters in my gallery range from classic Art Nouveau and Art Deco masterpieces to strange and weird (some might say downright odd) posters like this one - and I have to admit that each one brings me pleasure of a different sort. The Art Nouveau and Deco babies are unquestionably beautiful and crafted with a skill that can not be compared, while posters like this are in a different category all together: this great big, honking French vintage poster is, I think, from just after World War One (I''m using the graphic style, the typographic style, the age of the paper and the quality of the paper as clues), and it is advertising American army surplus as a great value for French back-to- school. I think the concept is hysterical - imagine all these little French kids going to school with army surplus backpacks.... the visual makes me giggle because I think of French kids as way too prim and proper to be carrying that kind of schoolbag. Meanwhile the drill sargeant in the top left corner is literally ordering you to pick up your supplies THIS MINUTE!! A classic poster, measuring approx. 15.5 x 23 inches, by the Art Deco artist known as Simone Galpin. The poster extols the virtues of French honey - and cautions the buyer to look for the symbol and the stamp which guarantees that the product is genuine - and to make sure that there can be no mistake, the stamp is reproduced! We love the simplicity of the style and design of this poster - as always designs which are clean and clear are the ones which appeal to us the most.
