Often called the Father of the French Pin-up, Brenot was born in Montparnasse (Paris) in 1913. He was the artist for the Folies Berger, and The Lido and was fastinated with transforming a sexually psychological state into a visual one. He was a stylist for such famous brands as Dior, Balmain, Nina Ricci and Saint Laurent working for years at the height of the industry... His work is reminiscent of Vargas and other pin up experts and reminds us of Gruau and other masters of the period. The colors of this poster pop and we feel it will look wonderful framed. The poster measures 16 x 24 inches and is in excellent condition. All of our posters, prints and pochoirs are authentic, vintage items. We JUST purchased this piece in Paris - it is an exceptional piece of Art Deco ephemera from a film made in the Art Deco period. Called Eperon D''or (Eperon means spurs, and Or is gold, so the meaning of the movie was ''Golden Spurs'' - note the golden spurs in the poster), we think that this poster is a magnificent homage to horses and riders. And because we love horses, and riders... well, we couldn''t resist! Art Deco was a popular international art design movement from 1925 until the 1940s, affecting the decorative arts such as architecture, interior design and industrial design, as well as the visual arts such as fashion, painting, the graphic arts and film. At the time, this style was seen as elegant, glamorous, functional and modern. The movement was a mixture of many different styles and movements of the early 20th century, including Neoclassical, Constructivism, Cubism,Modernism, Art Nouveau, and Futurism. Its popularity peaked in Europe during the Roaring Twenties and continued strongly in the United States through the 1930s. Although many design movements have political or philosophical roots or intentions, Art Deco was purely decorative. (wikipedia) This classic poster, measuring approx. 31.75 X 23 inches, illustrates the style for which Art Deco is best known - clean, precise and never using more detail than is necessary. Poster is in very good condition and is linen backed. Status: For Sale Reference#: stanchok1 Condition: A- Year: 1930''s ca Country: France Maker: Picard Height: 23 in. (58.42 cm) Width: 31.75 in. Leave it to the French to come up with a hundred and one (and probably more!) uses for a mediterranean plant, but according , anis, or anisette as it was also known is made from '' 1. An annual, aromatic Mediterranean herb (Pimpinella anisum) in the parsley family, cultivated for its seedlike fruits and the oil obtained from them and used to flavor foods, liqueurs, and candies. 2. Anise seed'' It was a potent potable and is still available in many forms, in France and elsewhere. This poster, designed by Delval in the thirties is colorful and wonderful note only becuase of its size and unusual horizontality, but also because it uses a conceit that some poster artists (including Cappiello) often liked: the image on the bottle on the far right is the image of the poster itself. (I look at this as an artist winking at the viewer...) Mounted on linen and in excellent condition, the poster measures 47 x 63 inches.
