Description: Canadian Pacific Airlines/White Empress Fleet Artist : Anonymous The first known CPR poster was printed in 1883. Since then, thousands of brochures, posters, menus, advertisements and other items have been created to promote travel, immigration and settlement, war efforts, freight traffic and other services provided by the company. In early years, CPR sponsored artists - both well-known and emerging talent - by providing railway passes to take them to scenic locations along the line, and CPR had the option to purchase works produced from these trips. In later years, CPR commissioned artists and even employed full-time graphic artists in the company''s studio in Montreal. According to archival newspapers from the period, on the Empress Fleet ''passengers like the spacious comfort of these three luxury liners, the fine cuisine, the traditionally gracious Canadian Pacific service. They like the ''scenic landscape'' too.'' (Pittsburgh Press, March 23, 1958) $675 Poster measures 28 x 42, is linen backed, and in excellent condition. This poster from the early 1960''s shows how the older clientele were being courted by the airline - fresh linens, attentive service, comfortable seating - these were all selling points that CP used to its advantage in this and other posters and marketing material from the period. Historical data (from Wikipedia) about CP Airlines indicates that ''Canadian Pacific Airlines, later called Canadian Pacific Air Lines and renamed in 1968 to CP Air, was a Canadian airline that operated from 1942 to 1987. Based at Vancouver International Airport in Richmond, British Columbia, it served Canadian and international routes until it was purchased and absorbed into Canadian Airlines.'' $600 Poster measures 25 x 40 inches, is in excellent condition and is linen backed. Stemm - Socks and Slippers One of the things we love best about posters of the 20''s and 30''s is their simplicity - the message is delivered in a straightforward but almost always charming manner (no subliminal advertising here!). This small poster for the company Stemm is no exception: two deliciously rosy-cheeks children, wearing comfortable clothes and lovely socks... the message is: buy these and your children can look like this too. Simple, but effective. Rendered in wonderful colors which are toned down but stylisticly consistent with the Art Deco period. Produced in France probably during the Art Deco period, this poster is professionally linen backed and measures 15.5 x 23.5 inches. It is signed by the well known and widely respected French artist J. Jacqueine. SUF10/$750 PLEASE NOTE: ALL OF OUR POSTERS ARE ORIGINAL, NON REPRODUCTION, VINTAGE PIECES. Asino Velocipedista ARTIST: Anonymous In the early 1900 s circus acts and travelling shows were immensely popular in the American west and throughout Europe. This bicycle riding donkey was surely a draw when he was put on stage at the Theatre Gianduja in Torno a small town on the shores of Lake Como in Northern Italy. We think the look on this donkey s face is priceless, and even with the use of one major color (orange), this poster pops great for a child s room, den, or any room with a bit of a sense of humor. Professionally linen backed, purchased in Europe, this poster measures 37.5 x 38 inches. AUF74 - $1075. Cleaver''s Soap (circa 1910) - 58 x 79 inches HUGE AND FABULOUS! ''It''s not all that often that one comes across a soap poster deserving of a rim shot, but the clever wordplay on display in this exceptional 4-sheet design definitely qualifies. Though it''s very likely that an additional text sheet may be missing from the poster;s far bottom - a sheet which may carry the quippy narrative even further - the tragicomic visuals that appear are definitely worth one''s attention, from the sinking shooner in the distance to the shipwrecked, yet poised and spic-and-span maiden in the foreground. And what soap could deliver such pristine lovely results? Why Cleaver''s, of course.'' (Rennert) Research indicates that Cleaver''s was probably made with a plant from the madder family, called Galium apparine, which has hooked bristles on the stem and leaves, and very fine white flowers. Listen, if it saved her from being ship-wrecked, maybe it would work for you too? We LOVE this poster - it''s enormous, it''s in great A condition (there is a tiny flake off on of her knees which we have taken a picture of, but it''s teeny tiny and we did it just for the purposes of being diligent), and it''s just a little wacky... Please note that all of our posters, prints, pochoirs and ephemera are vintage, non-reproduction, period pieces.Thank you. It would be hard to find a more classically Deco image than this one which was purchased recently in Europe. Advertising an aperitif called Kina Lillet this poster was printed designed by a celebrated poster designer called Andre Galland (who lived in France from 1886 - 1965 and who was a celebrated designer of posters for French wines and the French National Lottery) in 1927. The poster is signed. We have had this poster lined to protect its investment value and physical integrity. We think it is an impressive and interesting tribute to Deco artistry and would make a great addition to any collection. Overall excellent (A) condition - Paper, linen backing. Poster measures 23 x 31 inches. We have shown only the top part of the poster with the image - the bottom (where the printer has left the paper blank so that the bar or restaurant where the poster would have been displayed could have been filled in with perhaps the specials of the day) has no image... Please note that all of our posters are vintage, non-reproduction works of art. Please see our other posters, prints and ephemera. We are happy to ship worldwide - costs to be determined by buyers location and choice of air, surface or courrier.
