The Greatest Mother in the World/Red Cross ARTIST: A E Foringer Alonzo Earl Foringer was a mural painter and illustrator. Born in Kaylor, Amstrong County Pennsylvania on February 1, 1878. Mr. Foringer was a student of H.S. Stevenson in Pittsburgh, Blashfield and Mobrey in New York. This poster has been cited by both military and feminist writers - clearly for different reasons! - and is the image most closely associated with the artist. In a very pale palette Foringer manages to convey many of the same emotions which French artists and posterists of the same time period were capable of. Originally produced in 1918, we believe this poster is from a later printing, probably in the ''20''s or ''30s. This is a classic image and is in many museum collections as well as in the Red Cross collection of posters. Signed in the bottom right hand corner. Professionally linen backed, purchased in Europe, this poster measures 28 x 41 inches, and sells for $900. PLEASE NOTE: ALL OF OUR POSTERS ARE ORIGINAL, NON REPRODUCTION, VINTAGE PIECES. WE ARE PROUD OF OUR REPUTATION AND HAVE WORKED TO EARN IT. We are happy to ship worldwide - price quoted is for SURFACE mail. Expedited quotes available at additional cost at time of purchase. We will answer any questions, and/or send additional photos upon request. Check often as we add new items almost every day. Thanks for your interest. French Health Poster from 1938 published by the Ministere de la Sante Publique (The Minister of Public Health) - Nous Pouvons Suprimer la Tuberculose (We can keep Tuberculosis under control), Achetez le nouveau Timbre Antituberculeux (Buy the new anti-TB stamp) - 1938. Internet research indicates that in the 1920s and 30''s ephemera such as booklets, bookmarks, advertisements and brochures stressing the importance of fresh air, sunshine, adequate nourishment and sufficient rest were issued by governments across Europe, but most particularly by the French (who always seem by be particularly concerned with germs). Annual Christmas seal campaigns in North America and Europe were regularly responsible for newly-minted posters and seals; they continue today. This is a wonderful poster -unlike some of the other health posters issued by the same Ministry (notably for syphilis) which were frightening in the extreme - it is spritely and happy and makes one think healthy thoughts. Poster is in excellent condition, was recently professionally lined on linen, and shows absolutely no signs of aging. It measures 47.5 x 31.5 inches. It will be shipped rolled in a poster tube. All of our posters, prints an pochoirs are authentic, vintage items. Please check back frequently, as we add items on an almost daily basis. E-mail us with any questions or requests for additional information. Thank you for your interest. We are happy to ship worldwide - please note that shipping costs are for surface mail: if you wish expedited costs (for FEDEX, UPS or any other courrier service,) please let us know and we will cost it out for you. Although the history of film, and film festivals, in Canada is one of note, in QUebec there have always been a variety of film festivals to choose from. This one, called the journee du CInema Different evidently focused on films from France, Switzerland and Belgium, and took place in Montreal, Jonquiere, Chicoutimi, Sherbrooke, QUebec and Rimouski In 1978. Although no information can be found on this particular festival, we love the movement and nuance of this subtly colored poster - very retro, very 70''s and very, very cool. These black and white posters were produced by a noted Dutch publisher of scientific books and posters called (really) Dr. Junk. The striped insect is labeled ''Tricohodes Favarius'' (Internet research reveals: Subfamily Hesperiinae: The grass skippers are members of the Family Hesperiidae. Distributed worldwide, they comprise more than 2,000 species, most of which are found in the American tropics. The small to medium-sized adults usually have abruptly angled antennae with an apiculus at the tip . Adults of many temperate species are predominantly orange, while brown is the most common color of the tropical species. Male forewings usually have a brand or stigma with specialized scales . Most species have long proboscises and are avid flower-visitors. Adults flight is rapid, and perching posture is unique: the hindwings are opened at a wider angle than the forewings. Males of most species perch while looking for mates. Caterpillars feed on monocotyledons (grasses and allied plants ) and live in silken leaf nests that sometimes extend underground. Grass skippers typically overwinter as caterpillars within their shelters) and the other is labeled crephilus maxillosus (otherwise known - evidently - as the hairy rove beetle. ''The Hairy Rove Beetle is perhaps the most impressive Rove Beetle in Alberta. This cosmopolitan species can be found in woods and wherever carrion is found, from spring to autumn. The elongate, parallel-sided body is 13-20 mm long. Like all Rove Beetles, the last several abdominal segments are exposed, and often curved up like a scorpion when running. The dark brown body is darkly hairy. There are glittering golden hairs across the abdomen and around the thorax. It has large, prominent eyes, and sharp needle-like jaws that close across each other in front of the head. The antennae are thick and have kind of a beaded appearance. Adults feed on insect larvae, often dining at the smorgasbord of insects that are associated with carrion. Larvae feed on carrion and fungi.'')
