She wears a gold leaf band around her head with coins and tassels and a jeweled medallion in the center. She has black eyes and a dark completion. The square base is stamped, "URIELA. (?)Motella. Late 19th Century Comprising a conductor, two flutists, accordion player, bagpiper, and guitar player, each standing on a wooden barrel Overall: 6 1/2'' in. (18 cm) high figures each vary slightly in height. Minor losses, conductors wand, minor age split and repairs to one flutist. An Elizabethan noblewoman's garb adorns this pure hand sculpted alabaster bust. Details of the "ruff". hair and floral decoration at her waist are intricate and well executed. Our courtesan is smiling and looking downward in perhaps a shy, demure and gentle fashion. The statue is not signed: I suspect the plinth has been replaced, and that with the original may have gone the artist's mark. The condition of the bust is good: no flaws noted. The size is 9" tall, over 5" across and 3" deep. The alabaster is not polished, which is exactly how I like my alabaster carvings! « Less

Indian, Hindu richly grained burled wood carving of the Goddess Kali or Parvati. Exceptionaelly fin carved detail, The wood is very dense, ebony or similar.
The sculpture is 7 inches (18cm) in height, mounted on a oval wooden base which is about 3/4 inch (2cm) in height. Dimensions: Height of sculpture 7 Inches (18cm) Width 4 Inches (11cm) at shoulder Condition: Excellent, a slight bit of wear (flake) to point of crown on right side. Please view all photos. The carving and wood used are unique.
NOTE: I believe this elegant sculpture would display better with a dark square wood stand and 4" metal post. The screw is early and hand threaded. The base appears to date to 1920's. « Less
