Oil painting on canvas signed I. Maric representing a scene from a Romanian village with a cart driven by a donkey, rooster on house roof, giant well, etc. Ioan Maric is probably the founder of the Romanian naive painting movement and as a representative of this art, had numerous exhibits in Europe and around the world. He is a self-taught artist and his style reminds Chagall paintings. In his paintings, he represents the typical Romanian village. This painting is entitled by the artist "Donkeys", as written on the back of the canvas. Wonderful polychrome simplistic rendition of peasants riding in a cart pulled by a donkey, a rooster on a house' roof, oversized well implements, all contribute to the irresistible charm of this painting. Size: 19.8" X 16" (50 X 4 cm.). The enormous success of naive paintings makes this style of art the most sought and the most expensive (see Rousseau recently sold painting).
