The delicate, foliated design further suggests a Moghul influence. With a well crafted hinge and frosted silver interior it is In very good condition with only slight abrasions from use and age. With good age, a Kalyo-Kengu mans headress. The woven cane body is adorned with dyed goat hair, hornbill feathers and boars tusks, all attached with strips of cane. The cane is a bit brittle and the goat hair some what faded with age. The horn bill feathers are unbroken and in good condition. From a Santa Fe collection. Please feel free to call with any inquiry. A sweetmeat box, (Mithaidani) or perhaps a Betel Box, (Pandan) in the elegant style of the Mughal nobility who once ruled India. Crafted with a petal motif surrounding the knob and the familiar melon like shape accented with fine silver beading this box probably once adorned a prosperous womans quarters. While the style is Mughal, we feel that this box was probably made in the late 19th C. A previous Western owner has had the box assayed and marked with .925. The box is in very good condition showing only light wear and abrasions with a small dent in the body as shown. Size, 5.75" diameter and 5.6" in height. « Less

A finely crafted and decorated, rectangular silver box from late 18th C. British Colonial Ceylon, ( modern day Sri Lanka.) With a hinged, fitted lid decorated in a bas relief, traditional floral motif which continues the design on the body of the box. The bottom has in incised version of the general lid design. In very good condition with only normal wear from use and age. 3 and one quarter inches by two and one eighth inches by one and one eighth inches. « Less

Mounted on an iron tang which is adorned with gold foliated designs, are two thick jade plaques of fine quality. Carved in the graceful shape of a traditional Jambiya hilt and adorned with convex circles at the pommel area. The metal inlay has some wear and losses as noted in the attached images. This lantern was manufactured for the Youngstown Sheet and Tube. About 9-1/2" tall not including the handle. The lantern is in very good condition. The wire handle is a little misshapen, there are a few minor dents. The only problem I see is that it has been brush painted. This was considered proper maintenance at the YS&T. I don't know how it affects the value. The oil inside and the wick were pretty nasty so I have to clean it out for shipping. It will need a new wick. The glass is in excellent condition. « Less

This item has been SOLD. This painted leather Tigre mask has been associated with various boys coming of age rituals. At one time boys would, as a part of that ceremony don these masks and battle with wood staffs. Today the festival is more celebratory. Our mask is painted in the traditional yellow and black of a tiger. The boar bristle whiskers and brows along with the mirror eyes give the mask a real presence. The leather is stiff with age and a bit gritty. The left eye surround has noticeable wear. In all other respects it is a good example of this style Tigre mask.
