Antique colonial 18th Century George III bugbear coconut powder flask carved in relief, with two oval medallions. The front medallion encloses a crown, and the back medallion encloses a heart surrounded by stiff leaves, all against hatched grounds. The remaining surfaces are carved with hatched panels and flower-heads. The flask is fitted with a silver nozzle and two brass suspension loops. MEASUREMENTS: Height: from the top of the nozzle to the bottom of the base: 16.2 cm (12 3/8 in). CONDITION: In its original condition, showing the age and usage, with a dark patina. Antique, second half of the 18th century, Austrian silver mounted hunting sword with a straight broad tapering blade, double – edged towards the tip, cut on each side with a shallow fuller and a slender fuller, along the back-edge ,engraved and gild with foliage, trophies and a stag on a blued panel (worn) at the forte. The silver hilt comprises a crossguard cast in solid silver with a pair of straight faceted quillons and an oval silver collar. The ebony grip is retained by three rivets with domed silver caps and enclosed by silver straps, fitted with a shaped silver ferrule at the base. The oval silver collar and ferrule are stamped with the maker’s marks and the number 13. CONDITION: In good condition considering its age. The leather scabbard is a later addition. Antique 19th century Austro Hungarian presentation sword, model 1837, from the Hungarian Revolution of 1848. DETAILS: A single edged, curved steel blade with a full-length fuller and clip point, engraved on one side “Erinnerung an 13.14.15 März ü: 15.26.May 1848” (Memory of the 13.14.15 March and 15.26.May 1848), flanked by martial trophies, banners, cannons, helmet, swords, axe and foliage. The other side engraved with “Für Freiheit und Recht” (For Freedom and Justice), flanked by martial trophies, banners, cannons, helmet, swords, axe and foliage, also the back (spine) of the blade is engraved with scrolls. A steel stirrup hilt with a down-turned quilon, a pair of langets with a leather covered wooden grip. The blade is engraved in German since the German language during this period of time was the Lingua franca of the Hapsburg Empire, many Hungarians, Transylvanians, Slovaks, Croatians and Czech aristocrats, nobility and townspeople spoke only German. Antique 18th century Ceylonese Sinhalese nobleman dagger (piha-kaetta). A single edged robust steel blade with fuller along the back edge. The forte and spine of the blade are heavily encrusted in silver with scrolling foliage, encased on each side with chased low-grade silver alloy panels, over the base decorated with finely chased floral and vine scrolling foliage. A finely carved horn grip, retained by a rivet, with an elaborately shaped and engraved small plaque. The grip is fitted with a chased pommel cap. These elaborately decorated knives are usually the product of the Pattal-hatara (four workshops), the blades being supplied by smiths. This was a mainly hereditary corporation of the best craftsmen who worked exclusively for the king in Kandy. Originally there was only one pattala but this was subsequently divided into sections which included a Randaku pattala (golden sword armoury or workshop). As well as being worn by courtiers, these knives were given by the king to nobles and to the temples. Antique 19th century Russian Cossack's / Caucasian sword Kindjal. DETAILS: A broad tapering double-edged blade of a classical form with off centered fullers. A hilt fitted with a pair of shaped grip-scales retained by two domed brass fittings. In its original, unusual wooden scabbard covered with brown leather beautifully tooled with off centered fullers, matching the fullers on the blade, enclosed by a tooled design imitating Damascus steel (flowing water design). MEASUREMENTS: Overall length with the scabbard: 56 cm (22 in), the length without the scabbard: 55cm (21 5/8 in), length of the blade: 42.5 cm (16 3/4 in). Width of the blade: 5 cm (2 in).
