Antique tall ceramic vase or lidded jar, with Chinese design. Made in England by Masons Ironstone China and also marked for Mappin & Webb Ltd., who might have been the retailers (they are usually associated with English silver). Made prior to 1880 as the word England does not appear on the mark. Measures approx 13 1/2 inches tall (including lid). Distance accross widest point is just under 5 1/2 inches. Stands on a square base with gilded rim. 4 rounded sides, curving as they narrow to a long thin neck, ending in another gilded rim. Chinese pagoda style lid with a pear-shaped gilded finial. The ground colour is a fantastic bright Imperial yellow. It is richly decorated with cobalt blue dragons and clouds, with gold patterns. Highly elegant and attractive. Marked on the base MASONS, the crown, a banner with PATENT IRONSTONE CHINA and below that MAPPIN & WEBB LTD., which is most unusual (to have both marks). The absence of the word England indicates that the piece was made prior to 1880. Condition is very good. No chips/cracks/damage/restoration to be found. Vintage signed Charlotte Rhead pottery ginger jar / potpourrhi. Made by H.J. Wood Ltd Bursley Ware, England, and is pattern T.L. 4 Measures: just under 6 inches high. Coming from an esteemed collection of pottery and glass, this was sold to me as a potpourri jar, but I believe it is a ginger jar since t are no holes in the lid. Classic ginger jar shape with lid. The ground colour is pale blue mottled with grey - almost lilac. The surface has handpainted flowers in purple and pink with star-shaped bright yellow centres. A stylised foliage pattern in purple with yellow dots forms a band on the shoulders with parallel yellow bands on either side of it. This pattern is repeated on the slope of the lid. The foliage, main dome of the lid, tube-lining and ends are in a lustre glaze of soft gold - very gentle and pretty. The jar is marked underneath with Bursley-Ware Charlotte Rhead and England in handwritten script. The pattern number TL4 in brown over an O and impressed 44. The jar is in very good condition with no chips/cracks/damage/restoration of any sort to be found. NOTE:the correct date which is 1943-1960. Charlotte worked for wood & sons from 1912-1920s but none of her items were marked with her name,her name first appeared in 1926 when she worked for Burgess & Leigh. Pair of miniature perfume / scent bottles with encrusted / applied flowers. Made by Meissen, Germany, 19th century. Measure slightly over 1 1/2inches high. Baluster shaped body, richly encrusted with applied flowers & leaves. Matching lids, also with applied flowers and foliage. Each bottle is marked with the Meissen blue crossed swords and impressed numbers. No cancel marks. Good condition with the usual, acceptable tiny chips to the applied flowers. Japanese Meiji (late 19th century ) period jar and lid with double peach finial and beautiful enamel work. Measures: 6 1/4'' to top of finial. Diameter is 4 1/2''. Cylindrical shaped body. Very fine enamel work decorates both jar and lid. Colours are delicate and there is very pretty detail to the petals and leaves. The top of the lid has a wonderfully moulded double peach finial, the leaves are almost spider like in their delicacy. Condition:overall condition is extremely good. There is one small chip on the lid and a minute one on the rim, entirely hidden by the lid. Enamel and finial are in very good shape.
