English Victorian sterling silver salt service. Four shell form salt dishes on dainty claw feet with four matching spoons, cased in traditional maroon leather box with fitted blue velvet interior. Made by George Unite, Birmingham, England, 1863-4. All pieces are identically marked. Case is 7" square x 1.5" high; each salt dish is 2.25" square x 1.25" high; each spoon is 2.75" long. George Unite and James Hilliard founded the business in 1825 in Birmingham. The partnership was closed before 1845 and the business was continued by George Unite until 1865.In 1854 the firm was active at 65 Caroline Street, Birmingham and in London at Thavies Inn, Holborn through its agents George Groom (1852) and J.T.
