New Zealand vintage brooch depicting a fantail bird carved in paua shell and mounted in sterling silver. Lovely iridescent colours of greens, pinks, blues in the shell. The fantail is a native bird, known as the piwakawaka in Maori. Brooch measures 4.5 cm by 2.5 cm. Circa 1940s to 1950s. Excellent condition.
