SORRY SOLD:
This very fine and unique example of the type usually referred to as a "town swords" or "pillow swords" because of its small hilting is possibly the finest example of its type. It is profusely chiseled all over in open work, with hunting scenes, focusing on the legend of Prince Actaeon who came across Diana and her companions bathing and was punished by Diana by turning him into a stag who was torn to pieces by his own hounds. 38 1/2" overall. Outstanding condition with no damages or repairs.
This sword was published in the 1997 edition of the Peter Finer catalog #32 (see last photo).
I am listing this spectacular 17th century sword at exactly what Peter Finer had priced 25 years ago ($18,000.).
Price is firm.
